In May 2023, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched the construction of a logistics terminal in Xi’an (Shaanxi Province, northwestern China). The terminal began operations in February 2024 and has since delivered impressive results. Following its opening, container traffic from China along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) increased 33-fold last year.
Xi’an is a key transit hub in China and home to the country’s largest dry port. More than 30% of container trains bound for the European Union are formed here, and approximately 40% of imports from CIS countries are directed to Xi’an.
Currently, the terminal has an annual capacity of 133,000 TEUs. Over the past year, transit shipments through the hub exceeded 276,000 tons, with around 23,000 TEUs processed and dispatched. In the first four months of 2025 alone, 10,524 TEUs (126,288 tons) were handled. By 2030, this figure is expected to rise to 83,000 TEUs annually.
An integrated approach enables seamless delivery for customers, including the use of first and last mile logistics solutions—providing door-to-door service. The terminal’s main shipping partners include leading automobile manufacturers such as BYD, Geely, Chery, and Hongqi, as well as exporters of electronic equipment, metal products, and consolidated cargo.
